While health expenditure in Bulgaria remains among the lowest in the EU, in light of EU funds and increasing public investment, there is a window of opportunity for business opportunities. In 2022, public financing accounted for 63% of total health expenditure and 5.8% of GDP. At the same time, private household co-payments account for 35.5% of health expenditure – the highest share in the EU.
