The discreet gate to the cour d\u2019honneur of the new VIP terminal\nat Vienna International Airport slides silently aside,\nand guests park inside \u2013 or get out of their limousines. Service\nstaff take care of the car, the baggage and check-in while the\nguests make themselves comfortable in one of the stylish VIP\nlounges. Sofas and a selection of exquisite alcoholic and non-alcoholic\ndrinks invite you to relax, coffee is served, as is a selection of\n\u00e0 la carte dishes. Shortly before departure, you pass through the\nsecurity gate and passport control directly at the separate VIP terminal\n\u2013 waiting times are a thing of the past. And then the VIP\nservice becomes fully true: A limousine takes you directly onto the\ntarmac to the aircraft, so it really is only 80 steps from entering the\nVIP terminal to the plane. Whether charter or scheduled flight \u2013 for\nManaging Director General Aviation and VIP Services, Michael\nZach, all his guests are Very Important Persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the idea behind the VIP service for everyone at Vienna\nAirport? <\/em>
Michael Zach: <\/strong>It goes back a bit to when I took a look at our VIP\nservices in 2016. It was fascinating to see what services we provide\nthat hardly anyone knows about. Travelling can be stressful, and\nthat also applies to air travel. Especially in the summer, during peak\nseason, there are a lot of people travelling. You need to queue, there\nis a check-in, there is a security check, and you have to walk quite\na distance. But we at the VIP terminal can offer our services to\neveryone, and so the way to the plane becomes really short and\neasy. That is much more relaxing and exclusive. And that was the\nidea behind it. We have an excellent product and a service that we\ndon\u2019t want to keep from people. Anyone can be a VIP with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Has the VIP service for everyone developed from the service for\nthe \u2018real\u2019 VIPs? <\/em>
Zach: <\/strong>With the opening of Terminal 3, the old VIP area became\nobsolete and was moved to a new building near General Aviation.\nOf course, we also have celebrities travelling through or state visits.\nBut anyone can enjoy our service and book it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the \u2018real\u2019 VIPs get the service free of charge? <\/em>
Zach:<\/strong> No (laughs). Everyone pays for the VIP service, including rock\nstars and state guests. Everyone who lands at the airport pays a\npassenger fee, and that\u2019s the same for VIPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens in the VIP Terminal? <\/em>
Zach:<\/strong> We offer our services both on departure and on arrival. With\nthe Platinum Package, we also organise transport from Vienna to\nthe airport and then, of course, directly to the aircraft. From carrying\nthe luggage to boarding, everything is arranged. Those arriving at\nthe airport in their own car drive to our cour d\u2019honneur, hand over\nthe key and the valet service takes care of parking. There are three packages: Silver, Gold and Platinum, which are priced differently\ndepending on the scope of services. The Platinum package includes\neither the transfer from home or the valet service and a parking\nperiod of seven days at the directly adjacent VIP car park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens in the VIP Terminal? <\/em>
Zach:<\/strong> Our guests are looked after all around. After arrival, we take\nthe baggage and take care of its check-in. Passengers are shown\nto their own VIP room and spend the time until boarding doing\nwhatever they want. We have a total of seven private VIP lounges,\nwhich of course have a TV, a selection of \u00e0 la carte meals that are\nfreshly prepared, soft drinks and exclusive alcoholic beverages.\nEveryone should enjoy the waiting time too. We have also various\nplay facilities for children, who can come along for free up to the\nage of six. If necessary, guests can also enjoy a shower, because\nsome have business appointments directly after a long-haul flight\nand want to freshen up beforehand. Or guests come directly from\nconferences and want to take a shower before their flight. The\nhighlight, however, is certainly that you are taken directly from the\nterminal to the aircraft in a limousine. Guests can choose whether\nthey want to be the first passengers to board or the last. This is\nvery popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How long before departure do VIP guests have to arrive? <\/em>
Zach:<\/strong> It depends because different airlines have different requirements.\nWith us, however, there are no waiting times, neither at\ncheck-in nor at the security and passport gates. In addition, the\ndistances are extremely short. The general requirement when to\nbe at the airport results from waiting and queuing\ntimes as well as the walking distances that\nhave to be covered. The waiting time at peak\ntravel times is two to three hours. If it is a longhaul\nflight to the US with document checks,\nhowever, you have to be here two hours before\ndeparture even with our VIP service. For a shorthaul\nflight within Europe and without luggage,\nhalf an hour can be sufficient; then, of course,\nthe guest cannot enjoy our services extensively.\nThere are many people who do not spend much\ntime at the airport and want to get on the plane\nand take off as quickly as possible. This mostly concerns the business\nsector. For private travellers, the holiday begins with an enjoyable\nhour or hour and a half in one of our private VIP lounges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the maximum amount of time a passenger can spend\nwith you before departure? <\/em>
Zach: <\/strong>Two hours in one of the private rooms are included in the\nmost popular package, the VIP Service Gold. In the event of flight delays, we naturally do not throw our guests out after two hours\n\u2013 on the contrary, because with us you wait in a pleasant ambience.\nIt doesn\u2019t make any difference if you wait half an hour or three\nquarters of an hour longer. After that there is a small surcharge per\nhour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have your own baggage check-in, security\nand passport gates in the VIP terminal. <\/em>
Zach: <\/strong>There are airline regulations regarding the\nweight of the baggage, which we also have to\ncomply with. All legal and security requirements,\nincluding customs regulations on arrival,\nare handled in exactly the same way. There is a\nsecurity check, a customs check and a border\ncheck, all staffed 24\/7. It\u2019s exactly the same as\nin the public terminals. With us, however, there\nare no waiting times. We also offer a duty-free\nshopping service, but this is very rarely used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many people use the VIP service? <\/em>
Zach:<\/strong> We don\u2019t count passengers per day, but we have about 15,000\nguests per year. The lion\u2019s share is made up of private customers\nwho book with us and use our services. They make up more than\n50 percent. This is followed by companies and the official VIP services\nbooked by embassies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family members or colleagues can also accompany your guests\nuntil they board the aircraft?<\/em>
Zach: <\/strong>That is possible, although accompanying persons also have\nto go through the security check. This service is very often used by\nembassies, by delegations and also in the corporate sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a VIP guest, you are fed, you can hold meetings and take a\nshower. The only thing you can\u2019t do in the VIP terminal is sleep.<\/em>
Zach:<\/strong> If you sleep at the airport, something has usually gone wrong.\nWe generally try to avoid that at Vienna Airport. However, if it\nshould happen, we are of course ready to organise a hotel room at\nthe airport. You won\u2019t be left in the lurch, so as a VIP customer you\ncan really relax completely because you know that you will always\nreceive the best possible support in every challenging travel situation.\nFor this reason, travelling via the VIP terminal is not only\nluxurious, but also particularly easy on the nerves.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
